Diving lures are a combination of surface and sinking lures and are often used in lure fishing
for pike. Diving lures allow the angler to attract pike from deeper water and, when used properly, will mimic the
erratic action of a dying bait fish. Essentially, the diving lure will float and then dive down when retrieved. The
depth of the dive will depend on the length and speed of the retrieve. When the retrieve is stopped the lure will
bob back upto the surface.
Diving lures are best used for pike when the water is colder or deeper and so will be more
commonly used in the winter and late autumn. Diving lures themselves come in all sorts of shapes and sizes with a
variety of different actions available too. Predatory fish will be attracted by the acton of the lure and so it is
imperative that the retrieve is erratic. We also recommend jointed lures, which have a great action and can be very
effective.
